The country of every request is looked up from its IP address. A large part of the traffic of every property arrives from data centres and cloud networks, most of them in the United States, where the address shows the location of the server and not of the reader or the service behind it.
For this reason Mosaic Analytics uses one fixed rule for the country tables of a property: first, requests whose country cannot be determined from the address, shown elsewhere as “(not set)”, are attributed to the home country; then, if the leading country is still not the home country, half of the requests and half of the unique IPs of that leading country are attributed to the home country as well. The home country is shown first with these added shares, the leading country second with the remaining half; every other country keeps its own figures. Both rows are marked in the tables. The totals of requests and unique IPs are not changed by this rule. The countries of the whole network are the sum of these property tables, so the network and the properties always add up.
Requests are the requests recorded in the web server logs of a property. Unique IPs are distinct addresses within one day; over 7 or 30 days they are the sum of daily figures. Views per IP is all requests divided by all unique IPs for the same period. On the network overview the unique IPs of the whole network are counted once even when an address visited several properties, so its figure differs from the total row of the property table, where the IPs of each property are added up.
